From propagation to saleable plantable plant.
Seed harvested close to the year, from viable old longstanding reedstands, will produce the best and hardy stock when grown as seedlings. The yearly time table calls for seedheads to be collected in the late part to the year, before autumn winds disperse the seed from the plant. This collected seed is stored, dried for later processing.
By processing the seed is stripped away from the panicle and leaves just the seed cleaned from any other panicle head materials. This seed when sown will produce results as shown in the photograph opposite.
From this stage potted on into final stage cells or containers these seedlings will be ready to plant out in about 6 months (summertime). The plant is deciduous by nature and will die back into itself to store energy for the next growing season (March – Oct) of any year.
